What to Pack Alongside Your Driver's License

At minimum, bring your valid passport, your provincial driver's license, and your IDP translation document. Add your rental confirmation, travel insurance details, and a copy of your itinerary, saved offline in case you lose signal.

Scan or photograph everything and email the copies to yourself before you leave Canada. If your wallet or bag goes missing mid-trip, you'll still have access to what you need to sort things out from your phone.

Keep your license and IDP together in the same spot — the IDP only means anything when shown alongside the license it translates. Entry, driving, and car-rental requirements can change and vary by destination. Always confirm current rules with the relevant embassy, consulate, or local authority before you travel.
